Koraku

The Koraku garden (後楽園庭園 Kōrakuen Teien ) is a Japanese garden located at Okayama. It is one of the 3 more beautiful gardens of the Japan with the Kenroku and the Kairaku. This garden was built in 1700 at the request of Tsunamasa Ikeda, Daimyo of Okayama. The garden took its current form in 1863.

History

In 1687, Ikeda Tsunamasa orders with Nagatada Tsuda to begin the construction of Koraku; construction which was finished in 1700. Koraku is one of only the garden which one knows with precision the history since many paintings of the time Edo represent this garden. Moreover files of the Ikeda family recorded the evolution of the garden.
