Konkânî
The konkânî is one of the 22 official languages spoken in India, by nearly 4 million speakers, in the north and the center of the coastal strip of the Maharashtra, between the coast and the Ghâts Western, Official language with Goa with the Karnataka, the Dadra and Nagar Haveli and with the Kerala. In the southern part of its zone of extension, it is called gomântakî . It is a language of the Indo-European family, Indo-Iranian group, connects Indian.
Its rather important literature was destroyed by the Inquisition. The priest catholic Thomas Stephens (1549 - 1619), first English in India and installed with Goa, translated into konkânî the New Testament and writes its first grammar. The konkânî is noted in writing Kannara.
