Koningshooikt

Koningshooikt ( Jut or Koningsjut in dialect) is an old commune of Belgium, located in province of Antwerp (Flemish Région).

Since the fusion of the communes of 1977, it forms with the town of Ivy the commune of Lierre.

History

The old commune of Koningshooikt had been created on January 1st 1822 during the fusion of the commune of Koningsbossen (known also under the names of Koningsbos or s-Herenbos ) with the hamlets of Hooikt and Hazendonk, both detached from Berlaar.

This common was used to determine the line of dégense Belgian army in 1940: the Koningshooikt/Wavre line also said line K/W along which the troops were established behind defenses comprising for example anti-tank obstacles. In fact the principal battle was carried out along an other line established by a river and its prolongation in the channel known as of derivation , the Bataille of the Lily.

Industry

The head office of the company Van Hool as one of its factories are in Koningshooikt.
