Kong is a city of the North-East of the Ivory Coast, near the National park of Comoé. It emerged as a commercial place when the merchants of the Mali started to make trade on the territory populated by the Sénoufos. The Sub-prefecture of Kong, in the zone between Kong and Dabakala, would be the original zone where the tradesmen Mandé made come the Dioula S, which settled starting from the XIIe century.
The merchants dioula transformed Kong into a transborder market where one exchanged goods of the desert of north, like the salt and the textile, against those of the forests of the south (cola nut, gold, slaves). While the prosperity of Kong grew, its first Masters, with the clan Tarawéré, mixed the traditions Dioula and Sénoufo and extended their authority on the neighbouring areas.
In 1710, Sékou Ouattara, a warrior dioula, invades the area and conquered the town of Kong thanks to its Cavalerie. It seized the power there and, under its authority, the city passed from the statute of small city-state to that of capital of powerful the Empire of Kong, which dominated most of the area. With the XIXe century, Samory Touré destroyed the city, which passed under control Colonial French in 1898.
In spite of the fall of its glory, the Mosquée of Friday of Kong survived and the city was mainly rebuilt in the architectural style sahélien.
