Koltur
Koltur (in Danish: Kolter , a very old Anglicism in Féringien: Colt - " poulain" , thus Hestur and Koltur = Horse and Poulain ) are one of the eighteen islands of the archipelago of the Faroe Islands.
- Many tops: 2
- zip code: FO-285
Koltur is more the inhabited small island of the archipelago. The history of its colonization is similar to that of its Hestur neighbor. Here 50 people lived, divided into two families, in four farms. It is told that at the time these families hardly spoke. One never knew of it really the reason. In the years 1980, the island was uninhabited, until a couple of Kirkjubøur settles there in 1994.
Today, the island is subsidized by the State. It is envisaged to rebuild the old farms there, inter alia in order to encouraging tourism there, but also to protect the built inheritance.
There does not exist any regular sea link, but the helicopter of the company Atlantic Airways ensures it of the triweekly flights. It should be noted that Lükka and Bjørn Patursson (this last being the brother of the famous artist féringien Tróndur Patursson) make it possible, on request, to spend the night on the island (Koltursgarður).
