Koenigshoffen
Koenigshoffen (court of the king) is a suburb of Strasbourg dating from the time of the Romains.
As of the beginning of the 8th century, the duke Adalbert of Alsace, brother of Holy Odile and founder of the abbey Saint-Etienne builds there a royal villa which will give to the whole suburbs with its farms the name of Koenigshoffen. He was built along a Roman way connecting Argentoratum (Strasbourg) to Tres Tabernae (Saverne) today road of the Romans (Roemerschtross). Vestiges of a sanctuary of Mithra, low-relief representing the Syrian god Jupiter Dolichenus (particularly venerated by the soldiers), funerary steles etc Koenigshoffen did not deliver all its archaeological treasures yet.
At the 19th century are established to with it “dynasties” of brewers: Schneider, Freysz, Gruber etc which perduré until the end of the 20th century.
In this beginning of the 21e Koenigshoffen century does not cease increasing, in particular by the means of the construction of the district of the potteries which is located at the junction of the districts of Koenigshoffen and Hautepierre.
