Kobol

Kobol is an imaginary planet, pertaining to the universe of the televised series Galactica and Battlestar Galactica.

Kobol is the anagram of Kolob , planet near the throne of God in the Livre of Abraham, text crowned at the Mormons. That comes owing to the fact that the producer of the series Galactica, Glen A. Larson, was him even Mormon. Moreover, Kobol indicates the paradise in the old Persian religion.

In the two series Galactica and Battlestar Galactica (televised series), Kobol is the planet-mother of Humanity, from which all the inhabitants come from the Earth and the Twelve Colonies of Kobol.

The name of Kobol also makes think of the computer programming language COBOL, language of point in 1978 but become exceeded in 2003. The parallel with the two versions of the series is obvious: the Galactica vessel, with best of its form in 1978, become a space museum in 2003 with its telephones with cord; old models of Cylons (played by actors in armor) replaced by robots in synthesized images etc…

Galactica (1978)

In this series, Kobol turns around a variable star. For various reasons (like the overpopulation and the variable nature of star), the 13 human tribes which lived on Kobol (and had developed a space technology) left planet. Twelve of them colonized future the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, while 13th from only towards a planet called the Earth went away. One finds there ruins Egyptian as well as a named city Eden.

Battlestar Galactica 2003

In BSG-2003, Kobol is a planet like the Earth, glaze of oceans, of continents, of forests of coniferous tree and mountains. It is a planet mentioned in the colonial religion. The Crowned Rollers say a long time ago that, the human ones, divided into 13 tribes, lived on Kobol, controlled by the Gods. But one day, 2000 years ago, there be what the colonial religion called the Exodus. Twelve of the tribes left Kobol to be installed on twelve planets of another planetary system, which were going to become one day the Twelve Colonies of Kobol. 13th, as for it, a long voyage undertook which carried out it towards remote and mythical planet, the Earth.

For much the Colonial ones, it was about a simple legend, until two Rapaces discover planet by chance. In accordance with the Writings, the ruins of a town of gréco-Roman type was there. A forwarding was sent to explore the ruins (made up amongst other things of Gaïus Baltar and Galen the Tyrol), but it was taken in a ambush of the Cylons, which made several victims (the colonial religion mentions that each return on Kobol causes human losses). However, a team made up of William Adama, Laura Roslin, Lee Adama, Kara Thrace and other soldiers found mythical the Tombe of Athéna, where they discovered a sky chart taken since the Earth, where is the Zodiaque and the Nébuleuse of the Lagoon, which gives them indications to find the Earth.
