Košutnjak

Košutnjak , in Serb Cyrillic Кошутњак, is a Forêt, a Parc and a district of Belgrade, the capital of the Serbia. The park is distributed between the municipalities of Čukarica and Rakovica).

Localization

Košutnjak is located at 6 km in the south-west of the center town of Belgrade. The district is surrounded by the districts of Topčider in north and the west, of Kanarevo Brdo in the North-West, of Rakovica and Skojevsko Naselje in the south, of Žarkovo (with its prolongation of Cerak, Cerak II, Repište) and of Banovo Brdo (with its prolongation of Sunčana Padina) in the east. Filmski Grad (in south-west) and Golf Naselje (in the North-West) is under-districts of Košutnjak.

Pionirski Grad

Pionirski Grad , in Serb Cyrillic ПионирскиГрад, is a under-district of Košutnjak. It is attached to the municipality of Rakovica. It is a zone of relaxation and leisure, without permanent population. It is just in the west of the district of Filmski Grad. The name of pionirski grad , into Serb, means " the city of the pionniers".

Importance

The park of Košutnjak covers a surface of 330 hectares and it constitutes one of the most popular zones of leisure of Belgrade. The sporting Center of Košutnjak one of largest and is diversified capital (stages, swimming pools etc). The park, which engloble Filmski Grad and Pionirski Grad, has large studios of the Radio Television of Serbia like several restaurants.

The forests of Košutnjak and Topčider form a continuous unit. However the Topčiderska reka delimits the two districts, which lay out each one of their own station.

History

The June 10th 1868, the prince Michel III Obrenović was assassinated whereas he walked in the park. The August 25th 2000, Ivan Stambolić, an opponent with the mode of Slobodan Milošević, was kidnapped there, before being carried out.
