Knoxville
Knoxville is an American city of the State of the Tennessee. It counts 177.000 inhabitants, approximately, in the city itself, and 704.000 inhabitants approximately for the agglomeration. It is in the east of Tennessee, near to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Founded in 1792, it was the capital of the South-western Territoires then the first capital of Tennessee (starting from 1796). During the American Civil War, the state of Tennessee joined Condédération; but Knoxville, and Is State in general, remained rather favorable to the Union, in particular because the Esclavage was not very widespread there. Consequently, the army of the Southern occupied the city during the war.
After the war, Knoxville had become one of the richest and alive cities of the interior of the Southern of the United States. Between the years 1865 and 1920, two large theaters were built: the Theater Jewel and the Tennessee Theater.
But after 1920, the city suffered from desurbanisation. The tendency somewhat changed with the World Fair of 1982 (1982 World' S Fair), when the " was built; Sunsphere" in the downtown area.
Today, the suburbs are even more important, but there are culturally alive zones in the downtown area, like the old working (" Old City") and the square at the market. Also, the Université of Tennessee is in these trimmings.

Knoxville is the third city of Tennessee, with an economy centered on technology and science.The city is in the center of the " Valley of in; and the " Valley of the ressources". Mainly by the presence of a university, near of the downtown area, and national laboratory located at Oak Ridge, forty kilometers of Knoxville.
One finds there also Regal Entertainment Group, the largest world operator of the " theaters cinématographiques".
