Synopsis

Left Sanctuary: One tells that in Greek mythology, from young boys protected the goddess Athéna, one called these warriors of the hope the crowned knights of Athéna, goddess of the war. It is also told that their fists they pourfendaient the sky, and that their feet they could half-open the ground. Mitsumasa Kido, creator of the Graad foundation intended to protect the armor from gold of Sagittarius and the reincarnation of the Athéna goddess, sent hundred young children to the four corners of the world to follow a training of knight. Seiya, Shiryû, Hyôga, Shun, and Ikki became remarkable knights; they are teenagers (although they appear older with the image), guards of peaces on Earth, able to cover mythical armours inspired by the great celestial constellations. Quickly, their principal task is the protection of Saori Kido, reincarnation of the goddess Athéna, threatened by the plots of new Large Pope, Master of the Sanctuaire (the gathering place of all the Knights).

Left Asgard: the ecological balance of planet is threatened by a sudden behavioral change of the princess Hilda de Polaris, large priestess of Asgard. The Knights of the Zodiac will thus go in Asgard in order to fight the Divine, legendary Warriors protective kingdom of Asgard, and to overcome the evil which corrodes the heart of the Hilda princess.

Left Poséidon: the evil from which suffers the Hilda princess is instilled by the Poséidon god, who wishes to take the control of the surface of the Earth. He also kidnapped Saori in order to make use of Athéna in his plan. In front of the refusal of Saori, it will lock up it in the central pillar of its underwater temple (Hand Bread Winner), so that it receives water of the flood intended for terrestrial surface. The Knights of the Zodiac, or rather the bronze knights (gold knights having to remain with the Sanctuary) will thus go in its kingdom, at the bottom of the oceans. They will fight the seven Marinas generals in order to destroy the pillars of the seven seas (Mammoth Pillar). Then they will attack Poséidon itself, which they will have to overcome.

Left Hadès: the last part of the series, finished years after in several OAV, constitutes the final chapter: Hadès. The knights will owe this time outward journey in Hell to overcome Hadès, the emperor of darkness in person, who wishes " purifier" Earth by hiding the sun by a total eclipse, and to save Saori once more. They will have inter alia waking up with the eighth direction (Arayashiki), to overcome the three judges of the Hells, generals of Hadès, as well as the gods Hypnos and Thanatos, which they will meet after having found the way leading to Elysion.

Characters

The 88 knights of the Sanctuaire are organized in hierarchy. Most powerful are the Chevaliers of Gold , which are “truths” knights of the zodiac since they are twelve and carry each one an armor corresponding to a distinguishing mark. Then the Chevaliers come from Money , then the Chevaliers of Bronze . The series follows the adventures of a group of Bronze knights.

NB: The indications of doubling relates to only the original series. The cards devoted to the characters offer more information.

Note on French doubling

Inconstancy in the French doubling of the series of origin is rather frequent. It arrives thus that certain characters change voice from one episode to another, alternating even in the case of Mû or of Shun between a male-intonated voice (correct) and female. Moreover, like revealed it Eric Legrand in an interview, the actors discovered the episodes at the same time as they recorded their texts on line, which leads sometimes to confusions or sentences whose significance is obscure.

Censure (S) and DVD collectors

Like several series of time (Dragon Ball, Ranma ½, etc), “the Knights of the Zodiac” were the prey of violent criticisms more or less justified concerning violence, the sex and all that it was then possible to condemn. This is why, the 3 minutes 38 seconds (without counting the absence of the screen-titles, eyes-wrestling and the teasers) of preventive censure of before-doubling which had been carried out above, the series was found deprived of whole hours of program to the wire of the repeat broadcasts. Fortunately, of the intact bands were found at the time them years 2000 in order to propose to the televiewers French-speaking chains the original program. The problem arose then for the DVD says “light” which did not include a VO, and moreover integrated only the censured masters years 1990, and not the full version.

In order to regild its image near the fans, AB Groupe entrusted the responsibility of prepare DVD of quality to a more qualified studio which should restore the image and reinstate the missing scenes in order to be able to include the original version on the numerical support. Thus, moved by the purchase of its OAV Hadès, and also pushed by Tōei animation, AB started to produce these DVD “collectors”, whose first volume will leave on December 6th, 2007, and who will contain new titles, a cleaner image, VOstf, a VF, no-claims bonus of which a booklet, entirety of the scenes cut in VF and VO (a sound assembly at summer used for the scenes withdrawn before French doubling, like the famous scene of the cut ear of Cassios). For the DVD only, Eric Legrand his part last once so that 114 times it shout the titles with the screen, like its Japanese counterpart, as for the 113 teasers translated for the occasion with the famous sentence which finishes them “you were recalled to play already did feel cosmo-energy? ”.
