Knight of Jarjayes

François-Augustin REGNIER of Jarjayes
French general, born in Hautes-Alpes in 1745, died in Paris in 1822. Aide-de-camp of his/her uncle, the Bourcet general, of 1769 to 1776, it was named by Louis XVI, in 1791, brigadier and assistant editor to the deposit of the war. Husband of one of the chambermaid of the Queen, it was charged by the latter with a mission in Turin near the prince with Condé, and negotiations with Barnave, Duport and Lameth. After the execution of Louis XVI, it in vain tried to deliver Marie-Antoinette, emigrated in Sardinia, returned to France under the Consulate, and accepted from Louis XVIII, in 1815, the rank of general lieutenant.

Biography

Wire of Jean Antoine Reynier and Marianne Calignon, François Augustin Reynier Pélisson, future knight and count de Jarjayes, is born on October 24th, 1745 in Upaix in Dauphiné.
He starts by collaborating in the topographic surveys of the Bourcet lieutenant-general who had a reputation of writer militaire.
In 1769, it becomes the aide-de-camp of the general, posts that it will preserve until in 1776.
September 11th, 1770, he marries the niece of the Bourcet general, Marie-Anne Louise Bourcet of Saigne, 9 years his junior. They will have two children ensemble.
In 1779, it is promoted with the staff of the army with the rank of colonel.
In 1786, it becomes widowed and remarie one year later with one of the first twelve chambermaids of the queen Marie-Antoinette: Louise Marguerite Emilie Henriette Quetpée de Laborde, itself widowed of Philippe Joseph Hinner, harpist of the queen, and mother Louise Antoinette Laure Hinner, future Laure de Berny, friend of Honore de Balzac.
In 1791, decorated about Saint-Louis, it is named by Louis XVI brigadier and assistant editor to the deposit of the guerre.
Having known to gain the confidence of the sovereigns, the knight was charged by them with various secret missions in France or abroad: since 1790 in Turin near the count of Provence, as from July 1791 at Barnave, Axel de Fersen between 1790 and 1793…
In 1793, after the death of the king, it organizes with Toulan and Lepitre an escape bid from the royal family locked up with the Temple which envisaged its loading in Le Havre bound for England. Envisaged for the beginning of March, this plan will fail by the fault of Lepitre.
In May 1793, it joined Turin, charged with the relics left by Louis XVI and various letters, that the queen charges it with giving to the count de Provence and the remainder of her family, then with Hamm.
May 6th, 1793, it is named aide-de-camp per Victor-Amédée VIII, king de Sardaigne and brother-in-law of Louis XVI. Following this nomination, it takes part in the military countryside of 1793, in the army sarde.
The plot of the eyelet, which aimed at making escape the queen from the Caretaker's lodge in the night from September 2nd to 3rd 1793, provided that this one joins Madam de Jarjayes with the Large Cradle, property of Herault de Séchelles (on the territory of Livry-Gargan), before leaving with it for Germany. This plan, like the precedents, of course failed…
Under the Consulate, it returns to France and obtains the post of vice-president of the company of the Saltworks of Est.
Under the Restoration, the knight of Jarjayes receives Louis XVIII the rank of lieutenant-general, by ordinance of February 4th, 1815.
François Augustin Reynier de Jarjayes dies in Fontenay with the Pinks, close to Paris, on September 11th, 1822.

Heraldic

The blazon of the family Pélisson de Jarjayes carries “of mouths to the money pelican in its piety of same”.
