Klagenfurt

Klagenfurt (in Slovenien Celovec ) is the capital of the Land of Carinthie, in Austria, on the Glan river.

With the May 15th 2001, the population of the city was of 90.141 inhabitants.

Klagenfurt is a very attended tourist destination, with at the same time of the mountains in North and the South, of many parks, and not less than 23 castles in the neighborhoods.

The city is also located on the edges of the lake Wörthersee, the alpine Lac hottest of Europe.

The city counts a university and an international airport. It is with a few kilometers of the Slovenia.

The city was taken by the French in 1797 and 1809. By a plebiscite in 1920, its inhabitants decided for Austria.

Klagenfurt deposited in particular its candidature to organize the Winter Olympics of 2006.

It is twinned with Sibiu (Romania).
