Kitami
Kitami (北見市; - shi) is a city of the Japan located on the island of Hokkaidô.
In 2006, the city has a population of 129,097 inhabitants and the total surface area of the east city of 1,427.56 km ².
History
- 1872, the village of Notsukeushi-walled (ノツケウシ村) is founded.
- 1875, One allots to this village the kanjis 野付牛村.
- on June 10th 1942, after fusion with other villages in the 20 previous years, the city changes name and becomes Kitami .
- 1956, the village of Gessōuchi amalgamates with the city.
- April 1971, the population of the city exceeds the 100.000 inhabitants.
Culture
The flower which symbolizes the city is the flower of Chrysanthème.The tree which symbolizes the city is the If of Japan.
