Geography
Kitakyūshū (in Japanese Kitakyūshū-shi, which is written in Kanji: 北九州市 - literally Northern town of Kyūshū, Kyūshū meaning nine provinces ) is a city Japan ease of 993 483 inhabitants (figures of 2006), located, as its name indicates it, in north Kyūshū. It joins together in fact five cities which amalgamated in 1963 (Wakamatsu, Yahata, Tobata, Kokura and Moji), themselves forming a single and extended agglomeration, also being next to the city close to Fukuoka - Hakata.
