This section, which, known initially under the name of district of Saint-Nicolas-of-Goldfinch, then under that of Garden-of-Plants, that it took again after Thermidor 9 year (July 27th 1794). It took the name of Sans-culottes in August 1792 and took again his old name in ventôse year.

Population: 15.125 inhabitants, including 1.695 workmen and 3.950 lower-income group.

This section remained faithful to the national Convention during the fall of Maximilien de Robespierre on Thermidor 9 year (July 27th, 1794); only a representative of this section, C. Bigaud lent oath to the Commune of Paris, it was guillotine the 11 Thermidor year (July 29th 1794).

Report/ratio of Courteous Edme-Bonaventure: This section had acquired a reputation of well deserved wisdom, was constantly agitated since the August 10th that Hanriot, which remained in its enclosure, became commander about it. All the enlightened men that it contains in had been moved away by Terror under the reign from the without-culotisme , and it was characterized by all its madnesses that its privileged name of Sans-Culottes seemed to excuse. It is thus not astonishing only with Thermidor 9, time when Hanriot, which had several assistance-of-camp or adjudants and much of friends to whom he distributed money, in his center, was in full rebellion against the national authorities, this section tested some storms and decided a little late in favor of Convention.

François Hanriot was member and commander of this section.
