Kirkenes
Kirkenes (30° 04' 35'' E - 69° 73' 04'' NR) is a locality of the north of the Norway, located in the county of Finnmark and belonging to the commune of Sør-Varanger.
The city counts nearly 5.000 inhabitants.
It is the last before the Russian border (60 km) and is to 200 km of Mourmansk, the main port of the Mer of Barents.
The Hurtigruten reached there its terminus before going down again towards Bergen. The city developed starting from 1906, date on which iron mines started to be exploited by the company Sydvaranger A/S. the development of the mining activities, energy and forest, as well as the opening of the border with the Russia and naval repair make a rather prosperous port of it.
