Kirk Whalum
Kirk Whalum is a saxophonist tenor of Jazz fusion American born the July 11th 1958 with Memphis, in the Tennessee (the United States).
In 1983, Whalum draws the attention of the clavierist Bob James and in 1985, this last invites it to play on its album 12 . Its first album, Floppy Disk , appears the same year, with the participation of Bob James.
Since second half of the Years 1980, Whalum starts to be made a name as a sideman talent playing on the albums of a large variety of artists, in particular of Larry Carlton, Quincy Jones, Luther Vandross or Al Jarreau. It is besides with him that one owes the solo of saxophone on the very famous ballade of Whitney Houston, I Will Always Love You .
In 1996, it signs at Warner Bros. Records and leaves in common an album with Bob James entitled Joined At The Hip . In 2002, it integrates BWB, a Supergroupe at the sides of the guitarist Norman Brown and the trumpet player Rick Braun. Their album Groovin appears this same year.
Whalum is signed today on the label of the saxophonist Dave Koz, Rendezvous Entertainment , on which left in 2005 its album Kirk Whalum Performs the Babyface Songbook , which is composed of resumptions of the type-setter of Quiet Storm Babyface.
