K I-O (KDE Input/output is KDE Entrée/sortie) is part of KDE. It gives access files or other resources like the Web sites through the same structure known as API. The applications as for example Konqueror which are written consequently can then operate on removable supports or distant files exactly as they do it for a local file.
The Slavic KIO are programs which support a protocol given like HTTP, ftp, SMB, HS, FISH, SVN, TAR… Those available on a system are listed in the Kinfocenter program.
