Kino (group)

Kino (in Cyrillic Кино, which means in Russian " cinéma") of rock'n'roll of the Années 1980 is a Soviet group formed around the singer and author Viktor Tsoï (ВикторЦой).

Kino and Viktor Tsoï

Formed in 1981 with Leningrad (today Holy Petersbourg) Kino became, thanks to the charisma of its singer, the headlight group of the end of the Soviet Union.

The songs of Viktor Tsoï reflect the concerns of the Soviet youth of the time: love songs, revolt against the world of the adults, concerns ecological, small scenes of the daily life. The texts are of a great simplicity which knew to move many listeners. The last albums of the group adopt a darker tone and the influence of the British groups new wave is felt on some songs. Tsoï also turned in some films.

The group separated after death from Viktor Tsoï the August 15th 1990 in an car accident (he would have fallen asleep at the wheel), marking one of the last tragic destinies of the Russian Musique of the 20th century. Its popularity is still very large in the countries of language Russian and its person is the subject even of a kind of idolatry.
