Kings of the seas
Snorri Sturluson, in the Edda in prose, gives a list of what it calls the kings of the seas (Vieil Icelandic sækonungar , of sær “sea” + konungr “king”). Some are completely unknown, others are quoted in kenningar , others still are comparable to heroes known in addition, but not inevitably marine.
