Kingdom of Deux-Siciles

The kingdom of Deux-Siciles rose from the reunification of the Royaume of Sicily - separated since the Sicilian Vêpres from 1282 - to the Royaume of Naples, said peninsular kingdom of Sicily, by the king Alphonse V of Aragon in 1442. With died of this sovereign in 1458, the kingdom was again divided between his/her brother Jean II of Aragon, which preserved Sicily, and his/her bastard son Ferdinand which became king de Naples.

In 1501, the king Ferdinand II of Aragon conquered Naples and reunified the two kingdoms under the authority of incipient Spanish monarchy. The title of “king de Sicile on the two sides of the strait” was then carried by all the Spanish monarchs until the War of succession of Spain. The end of this conflict with the Traité of Utrecht of 1713 determined the abandonment of Sicily to the duke of Savoy then the Traité of Rastatt of 1714 left Naples to the emperor Charles VI. This one annexed Sicily in 1720.

In 1738, it was decided to found a kingdom of Deux-Siciles entrusted to a branch of the Bourbons of Spain, kingdom which will perdura until in 1860, with an interlude under Napoleon. In 1861, the Expédition of the Thousand carried out by Garibaldi attached Deux-Siciles to new the Royaume of Italy. The last cities to resist forwarding were Messine (which capitulated the March 13rd 1861) and Civitella del Tronto (which capitulated the March 20th 1861).

The fall of the sicilian aristocracy vis-a-vis the invasion of Garibaldi is told in the delivers the Cheetah and the film which of it is drawn.

The Bourbons always preserve some (far from many) in favor in the country; some expressed besides with Naples in 2004 against the return of the descendants of the Savoy.
