Kingdom of Burgundy

The kingdom of Burgundy is one of the frank Royaumes formed on the grounds of Burgondie and Sapaudie mérovingiennes then Carolingien born, conquered by Clovis 1 {{er}} with the Burgondes (Royaume of Burgondes) at the 6th century then shared with its descendants Mérovingiens then Carolingiens until the birth of the Féodalité and the Duché of Burgundy of the 9th century.

Rodolphe I {{er}} of Burgundy is made elect in its turn king of High-Burgundy or Burgundy transjurane in 888.

Hugues of Arles, which controlled the kingdom of Provence, concedes it in 934 with Rodolphe II of Burgundy, king de Bourgogne transjurane. The new unit will be the second kingdom of Burgundy-Provence also called Royaume of Arles. There will remain until in 1032.

In 1016, the last king Rodolphe III of Burgundy does not have a heir and recognizes his nephew of the house of Ottoniens, the Germanic Empereur Henri II of the Holy roman Empire as protective suzerain and heir to his kingdom whose the new feudal organization Carolingien depends on the kingdom in Duché of Burgundy and in Comté to Burgundy and another counties and seigniories

Vassal counts of Burgundy Otte-Guillaume, then his/her son Renaud I {{er}} of Burgundy and other lords of the kingdom revolts then militarily against their new suzerain German heir without success (Succession of Burgundy). The Comté of Burgundy is then absorbed in the Saint Germanic Roman Empire under German suzerainty until in 1678, date on which Louis XIV manages to attach it to the France.

The dukes of Burgundy will try to restore the Lotharingie in XVe century but the death of Charles Bold the without direct heirs, six years after its declaration of independence, will put an end to this ambition.
