King off the Boxing ring

King off the Ring is an annual tournament of the World Wrestling Entertainment which was held for the first time in 1985. Of 1993 with 2002, it was a Pay per view. After four years of absence, King off the Ring carried out its return in 2006 as an exclusive tournament to division SmackDown!.

History

Although the tournament of King off the Ring (King of the Boxing ring) for the first time was introduced in pay per view in 1993, the King tournament off the Ring was in the beginning launches for the first time in 1985. Don Muraco was thus first King off the Ring in 1985. The second King, Harley Race, assimilated his victory in the King off the Ring with his gimmick (personality) of the " King off Wrestling". Others will make the same thing like Randy Savage (" Macho King"), Owen Binder (" King off Harts"), " King" Mabel (maintaining more known under the name of Viscera), Kurt Angle (" King Kurt"), Edge (" King Edge The Awesome") and more recently, Booker T (" King Booker").

Pay Per View

King off the Ring was a show which generally saw fifteen or sixteen all-in wrestlers to fight in simple matches with elimination in the form of a Tournoi. When an all-in wrestler gained his match, it was qualified for faced with the turn according to another fighter who had also gained his match. The winner of the finale is officially crowned King off the Ring. He y' also had other matches which proceeded during the statement since he passed under a three hours format.

Whereas some believed that new King off the Ring received traditionally a chance with WWF/WWE Championship for the SummerSlam, this rule in fact was laid down only in 2002, for what will become the last tournament of King off the Ring in four years before the general manager of SmackDown! Long Theodore does not give it to the last style in 2006. Although four kings went to defy the champion with SummerSlam (Owen Hart, Mabel, Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar) only Lesnar had a match of championship guarantie as a " droit" after having gained the King off the Boxing ring . More important than the fact of gaining a match of championship is the prestige of the profit of the tournament in itself; some all-in wrestlers were made king as an integral party of their gimmick, and, in general, the winner of King off the Ring is an all-in wrestler who will see his started again career and which will become important. In fact, the famous " 3: 16" of Steve Austin started to be known as at the time of KOTR . A great number of all-in wrestlers have consequently euent a great success after having gained the tournament (in particular Steve Austin, but also Bret Hart, Kurt Angle, Triple H and others), but of other all-in wrestlers were true " flops" as a king (like Mabel or Billy Gunn).

The event was regarded as being the fifth major statement of the WWF as well as the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and the Survivor Series.

Rebirth

In April 2006 King off the Ring was officially of return after four years of absence. The edition of 2006 was the first not to be integral part of a pay per view since that of 1991. The matches thus proceeded over several weeks with SmackDown! but the final held place with Judgment Day where Booker T beat Bobby Lashley to allocate the crown.
