King-Wizard of Angmar

The King-Wizard of Angmar is a character of the Ground of the Medium of J.R.R. Tolkien. It is most powerful and the chief of the nine Nazgûl, the Spirits Serving as the Anneau.

Like other Nazgûl, the King-Wizard was in the beginning a man who lived some Ground share of the Medium or more probably with Númenor, with the Second Age. Avid of being able, it accepted the ring willingly that Sauron offered to him. Thanks to him, it gained power glory and richness, but n the other hand, it ends up becoming irremediably invisible and was consequently the slave of the Single Ring and Sauron, like eight other Nazgûl. “ the night went with them, and death shouted by their mouth ” ( Silmarillion )

After the defeat of Sauron vis-a-vis the Last Alliance, the King-Wizard and his eight similar disappeared, just like their Master. They were believed disappeared forever, but it was not the case. About the year 1300 of the Third Age, Nazgûl reappeared, and the King-Wizard is established in north, in Angmar, where it founded a populated kingdom malefic of Orques and bad Men. He applied to the task to destroy the kingdoms of the Dúnedain in Eriador, launching frequent attacks and sowing the discord between them. The Rhudaur subjected the first and became a puppet between his hands (v. 1350); a few years later, the Cardolan was destroyed and its dispersed inhabitants. The last to fall was the Arthedain, in 1974, and when it entered the capital of the deposed kingdom, Fornost, its triumph appeared complete.

However, its armies were overcome the following year by a coalition of the Elves of Lindon and Men of the Gondor. It is at this time that Glorfindel stated its famous prophecy, saying that the King-Wizard would not perish with hand of man. The King-Wizard thus returned to the Mordor, and a few years later, Nazgûl besieged the city of Minas Ithil, in Gondor. This one fell after two years from a difficult seat (2000 - 2002), and it became Minas Morgul, Tour of Sorcery and general headquarter of Nazgûl.

The King-Wizard played a big role at the time of the Guerre of the Ring, since it ordered the troops which were to attack Gondor. He thus took part in the Bataille of the fields of Pelennor, where he was to finally meet his destiny: he was killed by Éowyn of Rohan, niece of the king Théoden, helped of the Hobbit Merry but he does not reappear because of dead of Sauron. Thus achieves the prophecy of Glorfindel: “ a cry went up in the quivering air and was lost in an acute moaning; it passed with the wind, voice mean and incorporeal which died, was absorbed not to never again be heard in this age of the world. ” ( the Lord of the Rings )
