The anecdote of the goat
In 1808, Daniel O' Connell, future emancipator of the catholics, then young completely unknown lawyer, has to defend the local landlord, Harman Blennerhasset. This one is deprived by the viceroy of Ireland of the right to raise taxes on the sale of the animals to the fair of Killorglin. O' Connell succeeds in showing juridically that the goats are not included/understood in the document of prohibition. A fair with the goats can then be held and a goat is exhibé on a estrade to underline the exclusive character of it.Since, each year in August, Killorglin is in festival: farmers and merchants of cattle of the surroundings go there during three days for Puck Fair ( year Puca , goat in Gaélique), which accompanies the cattle fair. Indeed, a goat is crowned king of the festival and is hoisted on a estrade from where, abundantly nourished and watered, it chairs during the three days of the festivities.
