Kill Bill is an American film carried out by Quentin Tarantino, left in rooms in two shutters respectively in 2003 and 2004.

Synopsis

In the small vault of Two Pines lost in the middle of the desert, with El Paso (Texas) whereas is held the repetition of a ceremony of Mariage, assassins emerge and shoot pitilessly and without apparent reason at all the people present. The Bride (Uma Thurman), which is pregnant at the time of the events, survives her wounds but dark in the Coma. However, the Bride is not an ordinary person. Formerly tueuse with pledges in a secret organization, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad , it is endowed of physical capacities out of the commun run. Leaving sound Coma four years and half later, it has nothing any more but one goal: to be avenged for its former accomplices in whom she recognized the assassins of the wedding, and especially, to kill Bill (David Carradine), their chief with all, who was also the father of his child.

This film is articulated in two shutters: Kill Bill (volume 1) , left the November 26th 2003 and Kill Bill (volume 2) , left the May 17th 2004.

The first shutter begins on the song Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) from Nancy Sinatra.

According to Quentin Tarantino, it was envisaged, with the departure, that Kill Bill is one and single film, made up of many references to the cinema, carried out by a film enthusiast for film enthusiasts. However, the project being proven too ambitious, the production company decided to divide work into two parts. It is not surprising since the two films are complementary, while not resembling itself. Whereas the first is a homage acknowledged to films of Samurai (one is close to a plagiarism of Lady Snowblood ) and to the Asian series of action of the Années 1970 (see in particular the Rage of the tiger ), the second finds his sources of inspirations in the Western spaghetti with the Sergio Leone (while going until including in the original soundtrack a musical topic of Ennio Morricone) and in films of Kung fu. One of the other references is the film of François Truffaut the bride was in black , in this French film, a woman sees her husband dying the day of their marriage under his eyes, killed by a band of 5 amateurs. Several years after it decides to be avenged by finding its 5 characters and by killing them one by one, it has a list it also of which it raye names progressively.

Kill Bill: volume 1 is a pure and hard action film, which is held at high speed. The scenes of combat omnipresent, very long, and are filmed like true choreographies. A whole part of film is in the form of a Anime . But when the film finishes, no answer is brought.

Kill Bill: volume 2 can seem slower. In fact, it takes time to build the intrigue and to detail the characters. Contrast compared to the first shutter is seizing, but with the final clap, the spectators have finally the answers until they waited.

The scenes of combat of martial arts were chorégraphiées by Yuen Woo-Ping which has already work in the Wu Xia Pian , but also the trilogy The Matrix and Danny the Dog .

Anecdotes

The film is designed like a homage to films of martial arts. It contains in fact of many cinematographic references.

  • the yellow combination that the bride carries is a copy of that of Bruce Lee in the Play of dead the .
  • the masks which the Wild 88 carry are copies of the mask of Bruce Lee in the green Frelon ; the music of the series is used besides in film.
  • As former English, the word “ Bill ” indicates the saber or the sword of the combatant. From this point of view, the title of film is a pun to double direction, meaning to kill Bill and saber to kill . Lastly, " Bill " also meaning note, addition (for example: " you must pay the bill, now"), it is clearly about a " debt of mort" between the characters, of a " payment of comptes" , or of a " facture" rather salted!
  • the name of the blacksmith, Hattori Hanzo, is that of famous a Ninja.
  • Sony Chiba, which plays the part of Hattori Hanzo in two films, also interpreted the role of the ninja Hattori Hanzo in several Japanese films.
  • David Carradine, which interprets Bill, is an old glory of the years 1970 having acquired its notoriety thanks to the role of Kwai Chang Caine, the main character of the televised series Kung Fu .
  • the name of the Bride is bipé with each time the characters mention it, with two exceptions: when its enemies believe it buried in the place of Paula Schutz (in the Kill Bill: vol. This one also played in much film of martial arts. It is amusing to notice that in one of these films, it already fought against the character of Pei Mei, that he interprets itself in Volume 2.
  • the title of the band his original " Battle without honor gold humanity" is used by TF1 at the end of each match of the team of France of football.
  • In volume I, the waiter in the sushi bar, interpreted by the Japanese actor Kenji Ohba is not other than Gordan alias X-OR of the famous series éponyme of the Années 1980.

Availabilities DVD

Each of two films was the subject of a separate DVD and there exists a presentation box, heading Kill Bill: vol. I & II , joining together two films, two DVD of no-claims bonus, the original soundtracks of the two films (two audio CD) as well as a booklet of one hundred pages and some photographs drawn from film.

The DVD Japan board contains the integral and not cut version Kill Bill: vol. I (4 to 5 minutes in more compared to the French version), where the combat between the bride and the Wild 88 is color. Additional plans large-guignolesques are present and the martyrdom of Sofie Fatale in the trunk is more morbid. Lastly, a Japanese box limited to 30  000 specimens gathers the Japanese version of Kill Bill: vol. I , a tee-shirt representing the bride, a figurine in Lego of the bride, a miniature saber Hattori Hanzo with base of support, a poster, etc

Projects

  • In April 2004, Quentin Tarantino declared in an interview that it would make volume 3 in 15 years. It will show the history of Nikki, raised by Sofie Fatale which recovered the money of Bill, wanting to avenge death for his mother killed by Black Mamba in the first volume. Uma Thurman will thus be presented in the form of “malicious” and Ambrosia Kelley, which will have grown meanwhile, of “heroin”. Scenes will be however turned very soon, declared Quentin Tarantino, while it with the actress in her young age under the hand. Quentin Tarantino thus hopes to have his clean “ trilogy of the dollars ” (in reference to Sergio Leone). The film could be called Kill the Bride .
  • In May 2005, the rupture between Miramax and Disney makes it possible Miramax to distribute film under the mention “prohibited to less than 17 years”. On its side, Quentin Tarantino plans to leave in room a version joining together the two shutters which would be entitled Kill Bill, the whole bloody mess or Kill Bill, the whole bloody to affair .
  • In July 2006, Quentin Tarantino announced two continuations in mangas animated: a prolog on the relations of Bill and Hattori Hanzo and a continuation on the continuations of the adventures of Married and his/her daughter.
