Kilkenny City A.F.C. is a club of Football Irish taking part in the Championnat of Ireland of football. The club, founded in 1966 and originally called EMFA FC , was selected to take part in the national championship starting from 1985.

History of the club

Initially EMFA took part in the championship of the young people of less than 18 years of the Comté of Kilkenny.

In 1984, the club gained the championship and the cut of the Junior, unconquered remainder all the season. The leaders then decided to request their admission FAI and the League of Ireland in load of the organization of the Championnat of Ireland of football. Between 1985 and 1989, the club thus played under name EMFA, having for better classification a tenth place in the First Division. EMFA gained its first title in 1987 by gaining First Division Shield.

The club taken the name of Kilkenny City Association Football Club in 1989. In 1991, under the direction of Joe McGrath, it reaches the semi-finals of the Cut of Ireland, beaten by the Shamrock Rovers.

In 1996 - 1997 Kilkenny gains the championship in First Division. They thus went up in the First Division but for one year only.
