Kilimandjaro
The Kilimandjaro is a Montagne of Africa located in the North of the Tanzania and made of three sommets : the Shira in the west, the Mawenzi in the east and the Kibo , more raised, in the center. With 5 895 meters of altitude to the peak Uhuru located on Kibo, Kilimandjaro is the culminating point of Africa.
The mountain is actually a Volcan born there is 750 000 years and belonging to the Vallée of the great rift which traverses Is of North Africa in the south.
Very appraisal by the hikers, it is covered at its top of eternal snow and a Icecap threatened by the Climate warming.
Toponymy and etymology
Kilimandjaro indicates the mountain as a whole. This mountain is made of three principal tops which are Shira, Mawenzi and highest, Kibo. This last shelters the culminating point of the unit, the peak Uhuru (term Swahili meaning freedom ).
Kilimandjaro is the French-speaking orthography while Kilimanjaro is the english-speaking. The mountain is also called Ol Doinyo Oibor ( White Montagne or Montagne Étincelante in maa).
Formerly, the mountain was baptized Kaiser-Wilhelm-Spitze by the German which had colonized the German Eastern Africa.
Its name comes from the swahili " Kilima Ya Njaro" who means " Mountain of Splendeur". The word " Kibo" mean, as for him, " neige".
Presentation
Kilimandjaro is located in the North of the Tanzania, not far from the border with the Kenya which is located at the foot of the mountain in north and the east. It does not form part of a mountainous solid mass and emerges in a solitary way of the Savane which surrounds it, overhanging it of uneven of 5 200 meters, because of the current Climate warming. The glacier had resisted before a 300 years dryness 4000 years ago.
