Kiiminkijoki

The Kiiminkijoki (one finds sometimes the name Kiiminginjoki , the river of Kiiminki) is a river of Finland, in the province of Oulu.

The river is born from the regrouping of several affluents with the Lake Kivarinjärvi, close to the village of Puolanka. It leaves the lake with a medium flow lower than 6 m ³ .s-1 and grows regularly progressively of its long descent towards the sea (138 m of uneven), by maintaining the course towards the west-north-west.

The catchment area however is very limited by the presence of two of the largest rivers of the country: the Iijoki in north and the River of Oulu in the south, respectively 9th and 6th more important basins of Finland. The river just manages to join the sea without becoming one of the many affluents of the two large rivers: the mouth Kiiminkijoki is located at only 15 km of the estuary of Iijoki and 18 km of the river of Oulu. In that the situation of the river strongly resembles that of the Simojoki, another close relation neighbor.

The river does not cross less than 70 rapids. She is very wild and appraisal of the fishermen. In addition to Puolanka, the common crossings are Utajärvi, Ylikiiminki, Kiiminki and finally Haukipudas.
