Kidney (river)
The Rognon is a small French of Champagne-Ardenne, very abundant river and affluent of Right Bank of the Marne, therefore tributary of a tributary of the the Seine.
The catchment area of the Kidney is entirely located in the department of the Haute-Marne in area of Champagne-Ardenne.
Geography
Hydrology
Its flow was observed during one 39 years period (1968-2006), with Doulaincourt-Saucourt, locality of the department of the Haute-Marne, located at little distance from its confluence with the Marne, with 10 kilometers upstream of Joinville (ref.: ).
The interannual medium flow or module of the Kidney is of 9,23 m ³ a second.
The river present of the seasonal fluctuations of flow, with risings of winter carrying the average monthly flow between 14,5 and 19,7 m ³, from December to March included (maximum in January - February), and of low waters of summer, over one period going from July to September, with a fall of the monthly medium flow going to the floor of 1,78 m ³ in August.
The VCN3 can fall until 0,50 m ³ a second, in the event of dry period quinquennial, i.e. 500 liters a second, which though strong low for the river, advantageously compares with the VCN3 various affluents of the close Saulx. For recall, the VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.
In addition the risings can be rather important. Indeed, the recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 144 m ³ a second on April 10th, 1983, while the maximum daily maximum flow was of 134 m ³ the same day. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 or flows calculated for a biennial and quinquennial rising are respectively of 83 and 120 m ³ a second the QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising are of 140 m ³ a second. As for the QIX 20 it is assembled to 160 m ³, while the QIX 50 is worth 180 of them (see note). One can deduce from it that the rising of April 1983, of which it was made mention, was of a decennial nature, and thus at all exceptional, but intended to on average reproduce the every 10-12 years.
The Lame of water past in the basin of the Kidney is of 476 millimetres annually, which is high, largely higher than the overall average of France, and especially of the catchment area of the Seine (240 millimetres) and the Marne (274 millimetres). The specific flow (Qsp) reaches the solid figure of 15,0 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
On the whole, in spite of the modest dimension of its basin, the Kidney is, after the Saulx, the most abundant affluent of the Marne in its higher course.
