Birth of a character

The character of Kid Paddle appears for the first time the August 11th 1993 in the magazine the Newspaper of Spirou (number 2887), in margin of the Shazam heading, presenting the video games of the moment. Its name is not given: one finds just a text beside the illustration: " Who it is that one? In three weeks, he learns how to make use of a console! ". The following week, it is found, always in margin of the Shazam heading, in an illustration where it is separate its game console by various obstacles straight left various video games (bombs, spades and monsters). The text at side precise: " It has nothing any more but two weeks to thwart all these traps! ". Still the following week, it is found, always in margin of Shazam, completely gotten mixed up in wire of his console. McSprite, the character who illustrated the heading hitherto, looks it of an air narquois and comments on: " And it is “that” which will take the changing?! … "

And indeed, Spirou number 2890 of September 1st 1993 sees its Shazam heading replaced by " No Joystick for Kid Paddle". McSprite disappears definitively from the newspaper and leaves its place animated to Kid, whose each board illustrates one of the three video games presented in the heading. The heading will be famous thereafter " Kid" laboratory; , while the boards of Kid Paddle are done increasingly independent of the heading itself which will disappear from Spirou starting from number 2992, the August 16th 1995. Meanwhile, the drawing of Kid changed: characters, proportioned " normalement" in the beginning, gradually evolved to the current drawing, where the head is disproportionate compared to the body. Moreover, at the time of the representations of scenes drawn from the video game, it is not any more the drawing of Kid which represents the hero, as it was the case at the beginning.

Synopsis

This series introduces to the adventures of a young boy (Kid Paddle) fan of Video games, which tends to confuse the universes of these plays with the real-world. He particularly appreciates the plays-vidéos and films “gores”, as he qualifies them itself with delight. One will note, for example, the recurrence of the attempts of Kid, and his assistants Big-Bang and Horace to try to go to see films which are prohibited to them because of their young age (films with the promising names as regards feeling reluctant like the English cream was pus, or the brain is alive). Attempts at a certain ingeniousness (as that to assemble the ones on the others in lower part of a long coat to measure the necessary size) which balance all by failures caused by the awkwardness of Horace…

Characters

Kid Paddle : the hero of the cartoon and the Cartoon.
Big Bang : a little genius which all the time invents gadgets which work or do not go, friend of Kid.
Horace : another friend of Kid, very naive and which is found always wounded, generally an enormous fracture with the head. To always therefore play part of rikiki.
Carole : (large?) sister of Kid which takes it for weak deep and one décérébré.
the father of Kid Paddle : Mr Paddle or P' Pa , it has a too banal existence with the taste of his/her son who often imagines it as super hero in his daydreams.
Watchtower : the owner of City Range, very grumpy towards Kid and his/her friends, and the draft often of group of youth (only in the cartoon), gaming room where Kid and its friends are found periodically.
Radar : the dog of Watchtower, supervises without Kid stop and its friends, and bites the people who shake the machines.
Grandfather of Kid Paddle : Hard of ear, he hears very through. Convinced that Kid Paddle is blue flower, it offers to him toys such as Mickey, Babar, Bécassine, Bambi and especially Rikiki the Duck (see low).
the small barbarian : It is the small warrior of the video game which the hero plays and who often loses, which was worth to him a special data base of the name of Game Over .

Maximilienne : At the beginning in the class of Carole, it is now a friend of Kid. Watchtower is his/her uncle. She wants that it is called max . It is a pro of the video game. More or less vétue with the Gothic mode, it Kid fascine.

Océanne : Large friend of Carole (one sees it only in the cartoon drawn from the series).

Eustace : The cat of Carole.

Rikiki the Duck : Horace is its larger fan but Kid hates Rikiki. Horace is always happy to lend to Kid its play " Rikiki plays échecs". At the time of the tournament in the gaming room, it is humiliated by Kid which says that Horace is made beat by the tide on the 5th level of " Rikiki with the plage" or that it loses on the 3rd level of " Rikiki makes crêpes". Moreover best films of Rikiki are surely " Rikiki and the rod magique" , however disadvised with less than 8 years because of scenes being able to shock the sensitivity of young people, and finally unforgettable the " Rikiki in Far-West" without forgetting it: " Rikiki hides behind mushroom! ".

Mother of Kid Paddle : in the first album, Gag 25, page 6 one can notice in the last box that a character known as: " Hurry, cherished! You will arrive late at your ministère.". Any door to believe that it sagit of the mother of Kid… Thereafter, this character does not appear any more, and several allusions let think that Kid and its sister are high by their father alone.

Kurt Maltdor : preferred realizer of Kid

Billy : owner of " Zombie Planet" in which one can find time in another Kid.

Augustin Glossaire : the teacher of Kid.

the neighbor of Kid : Kid always makes the funny ones of accidenaux blows to make fear with its neighbor.

Benjamin: the preferred teacher of Kid.

the boy with the fair wick : former friend of kid. He is in fact the representation of Midam, the author (even physical) in the data base He disappears at the end of some albums; Horace take its place.

Cindy : the malchanceuse headstock of Carole.

the salesman of tickets of films' : sensitive, talkative, always prevents Kid and his/her friends to see their films.
the baby : he plays video games with Kid once.
the neighbor of the lower part of Big Bang (of its true name Ernestin Tronchar): is unceasingly made hustle by the data-processing experiments of Big Bang and Kid.
