Khwarezm

Khwarezm ( Xorazm in Uzbek), also ancient Chorasmie , Kharezm , Khorezm , Khwarizm , etc Area located at the south of the Sea of Aral in Ouzbékistan, with the historical cities of Ourguentch and Khiva. The name of Khwarezm is explained by old Iranian * Xwāra-zmi- “Country of the sun”. The Khorezmiens were mentioned at fifth century BC by Hérodote.

One knows a culture, known as of Tazabagyab and appeared towards -1500, from where the Iranians of the Western Turkestan could come. It was located at the south of the Mer of Aral, on the territory of the Khorezmiens futures. It gathered elements of the culture of the Tombs with Frame and a culture of the Kazakhstan, that of Andronovo.

Khwarezm was the stronghold of the dynasty of the Khwârazm-Shahs called sometimes Khorezmiens between 1077 and 1231.

It was the area of birth of Muhammad ibn Mūsā Al-Khuwārizmī, which gave its name to the word algorithm.
