Khoïkhoï
The Khoïkhoï , literally Men of the Men , are thus entitled themselves in opposition to their neighbors of Southern Africa the Bochimans, which they name Sankhoï. These two people - of which the first saw breeding and the second of drives out and gathering - speak about the related languages which one gathered under the name of Khoïsan. Present in this part of the world since about thirty thousands years and authors remarkable engravings and cave paintings, they were gradually driven back by a wave bantoue during the last three millenia. The arrival of the colonists Dutch, huguenots then British accentuated their decline.
It is with the clicks (slappings) characteristic of the Langues khoïsan that Khoïkhoï had to be indicated under the nickname of “ Hottentots ” by the Afrikaners, this evoking term what was perceived like a Bégaiement.
