Khnoum ( the Master of fresh water ) is the god of the cataracts and creative power in the Egyptian Mythologie. It controlled the rising of the the Nile by opening, in Éléphantine, the Caverne of Hapy in which the Flood was. There he plays an important role in the daily newspaper of the Égyptiens, preserving the people of the famine.

Demiurge who modelled egg of creation, in the mystery of the divine birth, it also modelled the child-king. Khnoum form its creations on its potter's wheel with the silt of the the Nile, to give them life and work their Ka.

It is represented under the features of a man with head of ram, sometimes surmounted of a jug, holding the cross ansée (Ankh) in the hand.

Khnoum was particularly adored with Éléphantine and Esna. A Temple was also dedicated to him on the island of Philaé. One finds it in ten towns of Egypt in varied forms.

Khnoum, Satis (Satet) and Anoukis (Anket) form the Triade of Elephantine.

Khnoum is a very old god who is paradoxically especially known thanks to the rather recent texts (1st century a. J. - C.) engraved on the walls of the temple of Esna.
