Kheireddine Pasha

Kheireddine Pasha or Khérédine Pasha (rear RTL خيرالدينباشا), still called Kheireddine Ettounsi (rear RTL خيرالدينالتونسي), born in 1822 and deceased the January 30th 1890 with Istanbul (Turkey), is a politician Tunisia N of origin Circassie.

It is sold like slave in Istanbul to a large character, Tahsin Bey, which would have later resold it (at the 20 years age) with an agent of the Bey de Tunis instructed by this last to get slaves to him. The bey the fact of informing within the Seraglio. Intelligent and cultivated, he travels much in Europe during various missions.

He succeeds Mustapha Khaznadar like top dog of Tunis in 1873 with the resolution to modernize the country. He reforms the Douane S, the Habous, the Mosquée Zitouna and Tunisian justice. He also creates a library and the Collège Sadiki.

In 1877, the Othoman sultan, in war with the Russia, request with the bey, pursuant to the Decree of 1871, to provide him a military aid. Kheireddine supports the request of the sultan of course while the bey wants to oppose a pure and simple refusal to it. Finally, an extraordinary council, composed of senior officials, Ouléma S and the notable ones, chooses the supply of subsidies in cash and in kind collected by public subscription: Several million francs and a thousand of horses and mules is sent to the sultan. But the Sécheresse comes to dry up the public subscription and even incomes, which obliges Kheireddine to decrease its family and government's rate of expenditure including the civil list of the bey. Vis-a-vis this affront, the bey forces Kheireddine to resign the July 21st 1877. However, the Othoman sultan calls upon him and top dog of the Ottoman Empire of 1878 with names it 1879.

It is withdrawn then in Istanbul where it dies in 1890. Among his works, one can quote the surest means to know the state of the nations .

Its remainders are repatriated in Tunisia, the April 9th 1968, to be deposited with the Cimetière of Djellaz in Tunis.
