Khedive
Khedive (of the Persian " Seigneur" , or " Viceroy ") is a title granted in 1867 by the Othoman government to the Egyptian monarch , Ismaïl Pasha.
This Moslem dynasty of Albanian origin , initially reigned on Egypt as a semi-indépendants governor, then as a hereditary Khedive. Mehemet Ali, founder of the dynasty had received the support of the Othoman sultans and in particular that of Selim III for its reform projects. It is only starting from the reign of Ismaïl that the dynasty truly was founded.
The Britanniques invade the country at the end of the 19th century, nevertheless the function remains in place until the end of the First World War.
