Khamak
The khamak is a Indian Tambour with friction used by the Baul S and the Sapera S (snake charmers). It is a hybrid instrument between the drum and the Luth.
Stringed-instrument trade
It is wood a small cask 15 cm in diameter and 20 cm height. A skin is placed at an end while the other side remains open. A cord is fixed at the center of the skin (as for the Ektara) and is tended manually.
Play
One plays about it sitted or upright, the drum wedged under the left arm, the cord held and tended by the left hand. The right hand grips the cord with a large plectre. While drawing more or less, one varies the height of the note and adjusts the melody. It is especially an instrument of accompaniment of the Ektara or Pungi.
