Khafadje
Khafadje is a site of the ancient Mésopotamie. Perhaps it corresponds to old Tutub. This city is one of most important of the valley of the Diyala at the time of the antiquated Dynasties (DA, 3rd front millenium J. - C.). The site extends then on 40 hectares, and is distributed on four such. An enclosure of almost 3 kilometers length surrounds the principal zone of the habitat.
The Tel., located at the north of the site, is vastest. One finds there three buildings principal, identified like temples. The temple of Sîn, built as of the time of recent Uruk, is built on a terrace relatively low, and is surrounded by an enclosure. It is organized around a central court serving of the warehouses, and what seems to be concealed it. The temple of Nintu, frame him also at the time of recent Uruk, is at the time DA III organized around two courses, opening on three cellae.
The principal building of Such has is the oval temple, the most known building of the site. It was built on very solid foundations, which required during its construction the digging of a large pit, which was then filled with sand. The name of this temple comes owing to the fact that it is surrounded by two enclosures of ovoid form. Only one door gave access the building. Between the two enclosures a house and a small vault are. The temple itself is in the interior enclosure. It was on a 4 meters height terrace, which only remained. Around parts with the various functions were distributed: warehouses, kitchens, workshops.
Between the oval temple and the temple of Sîn the " was; district muré". It dates from the beginning of period DA III, after a fire to the end of the DA II destroyed the preceding level. It is about a residential district built in an enclosure.
The Tel. B had as a principal building a fortress, Dūr-Samsu-iluna (" Extremely Samsu-iluna "), which was as its name indicates it built under the reign of this Babylonian king of the 18th century, wire of Hammurabi. The Tel. a.c. to him also delivered a fortress, more recent since it dates from the period Isin - Larsa (20th-19th centuries). The Tel. D comprised as for him another temple of Sîn and the dwellings.
