Ketnet

Ketnet is a public Television channel for the youth of the Flemish Communauté of Belgium diffused in schedule shared on second television channel (VRT 2) of the public group Vlaamse Radio- in Televisieomroep (VRT).

History of the chain

April 26th 1977, just like RTBF, BRT lance a second channel of television named general practitioner BRT2 until in 1991, then BRTN2 following the name change of the BRT. Its programming was general practitioner with information ( TV2-journaal each day with 20:00), emissions on art, of the sport, but also of films, the series, humor and the emissions for youth all the morning in collaboration with the chain Dutchwoman Nederlandse Onderwijs Televisie (NOT).

Ketnet is launched on December 1st 1997 to succeed BRTN2 in channel divided with the cultural chain Canvas which emits starting from 20:00. Ketnet was conceived like an alternative to the programs violent ones diffused by the commercial chains in the emissions for youth. It is the chain voted by plebiscite by the children in Flanders and with the Netherlands because of its programming of quality and of the diffusion of good foreign productions.
