Origin

It belongs to the branch of the Celtic races . It would result from the cattle brought by the Celts to the Neolithic era. It is high in Ireland for a very long time (former to the first written accounts of the island) and it is in this island that the historians of the race locate the creation of the breeding at mainly dairy goal. The herd book goes back to 1890. It was exported in England. It is a race with very restricted manpower. In 1983,200 animals were listed. A protection plan set up made it possible to make go up manpower with 550 cows and 21 bulls including 9 available in artificial insemination in 1998.

Morphology

It wears a dress uniformly black, even the mucous membranes and worse. Its horns are rectified, clear with black points. Certain individuals are without horns.
C' is a race of reduced size. The cow measures 122 cm with the garrot for 375 kg and the bull 135 cm for 550 kg.

Aptitudes

Like the other races of this branch, it is a primarily dairy race. It produces 4500 kg of rich milk. (fat contents 4%) the cull cows are well developed. The carcasses are light but quite formed and the meat is goûteuse. The animals fatten themselves easily.
Elle is famous for its rusticity, its longevity (14-15 years), its facility of vélage and its capacity to transform poor fodder. It is resistant to tuberculosis.
