Kermes

Kermess was a Québécois group of alternative Rock originating in Coaticook which worked of 1995 with 2004. The group was composed of Sylvain Tremblay (voice & guitar), Dominic Morin (guitar & voice), Mario Landry (low), François Landry (guitar & voice) and Martin Fillion.

Kermes was born in 1995 by five friends of childhood originating in Coaticook in the Area of Estrie. The group is composed of Sylvain Tremblay (voice & guitar), Dominic Morin (guitar & voice), Mario Landry (low), François Landry (guitar & voice), Martin Fillion (battery & voice), thus formed to take part in the Contest Cégeps Rock.

Hardly two months of existence, the musicians gain the second price of the contest. In the same year, they took part in the contest Découverte 95 to finish with the third rank. Thereafter, they recorded mini CD which it was sold of more than 1000 specimens.

In 1996, Kermess then takes part in the preliminary of the Contest the Empire of the Future Stars. At once, Kermess gains the final one of Cégep Rock what makes it possible the group to make a mini-round in Belgium.

Thereafter, the quintet took part in the free Festival of expression of Laval, where the song " The effect-mère" gain a purse of the SOCAN and takes part in the finale of the Polliwog contest where this time " The effect-mère" gain a price, the purse Labatt Ice/Radio Energy for the best French-speaking song.

Between these contests, Kermess was likely to traverse Quebec by playing the first parts of Black Silence, Kevin Parent, Groovy Aardvark, Grimskunk, Doughboys and thus TPSC.

In December 1996, Kermess takes part in compilation " Christmas in street I " with their alternate version of " Glory Alleluia ".

In 1997, Kermess signs a contract with discs MPV. Their first album is entitled " Twelve Nocturnes". The album was sold with 13.000 copies. They were nominated with the ADISQ in the category “better album rock'n'roll-alternate”.

A little later, Kermess republishes the album of the " Twelve Night " to add the resumption of " Y' does not have large thing in the sky at evening " of Paul Piché. With this Kermess recovery saw new doors opening in front of them.

In September 1998, Kermess presents their new album entitled to us " Short talk… " realized by Marc-Andre Thibert de Groovy Aardvark. A more commercial disc which treats human being on different aspect by texts of great quality. The album was sold, at date, more than 3000 copies…

In December 1998, Kermess takes part in the album of " Christmas in street II " with the song " To take to beer glass my pussy ".

February 10th, 1999, Kermess announced to us the departure of the guitarist François Landry. This one will be replaced by Pascal Madore. Pascal will take part only in the round of the Exposed album Bref… Après, the remainder of the group will continue with Juste 4 members.

Unfortunately, the company of disc did not want to leave another video after the new millenium. Thus Kermes, fell in period from writing from a new album for the new millenium.

Meanwhile, Kermess made shows a little everywhere in Quebec and it is in Roberval that one was entitled to 3 new compositions.

After several months of eagerness to have one hears with the discs MPV, it is in March 2001 that the group leaves the company of disc MPV.
