Kerlouan

Kerlouan ( Breton Kerlouan in ) is a common department of the Finistere, in the area Brittany, in France.

History

At the 5th century, Holy Séni (or Holy Sezni), Irish monk, settles and establishes a small hermitage “peneti Sant Sezni” with the locality " Pors Huel". The village of Kerlouan was thus born at the edge of the river Quillimadec. At the 9th century Saint pol. built another monastery.

The parish of Kerlouan belonged to the archidiaconé of concerning Kemenet-Ily évêché of Leon and was under the term of holy Brévalaire. It had like Trève Lerret. It is resulting from a dismemberment of the primitive parish of Plounéour-Trez.

In the Kerlouan beginning was only one subdivision of the parish of Plounéour-Trez.

Places and monuments

The most beautiful monument of Kerlouan is its natural site, in seaside. This site is enamelled granitic rocks, which were often used as subject of legend.

The commune of Kerlouan shelters churches and vaults: the parish church Brévalaire Saint, vaults Holy Anne, of Croazou, Saint-Egarec, Saint-Guenal and Saint-Saver.

Disseminated on the commune, of many crosses and martyrdoms with the crossings of the roads (not less than 58 indexed crosses!). Some fountains are also remarkable: the black fountain (Feunteun zu), two fountains of Égarec Saint and the fountain of Saint Saver.

There remains still three manors on the communal territory: Kerivoas, Kerenez and PEN rear Méas. That of Kerivoas is classified under historic building.

In extreme cases with Plounéour-Trez is a military signal center, with a 300 height m pylon, being used inter alia with the transmission as information bound for the Sous-marin S French.

The hamlet of fishermen of Ménéham

The village of Ménéham still sheltered it y' has about thirty years some peasants fishing. Initially " was built; the house of the douaniers" or house of the body of guard. In the beginning, it was about a station of guet (17th century under Vauban). This building has as a characteristic to have a stone roof. Indeed to each changing of the guards, the inhabitants came to steal the carpentry wooden which was useful for fire.

This station of guet is inserted in an enormous chaos of granitic rocks. The hamlet was built behind this chaos, sheltered well elements. One finds in this hamlet an astonishing construction by his length (more than 40 m): " the caserne". This masonry is in fact made up of 6 residences. On the site: the Boédoc house, the Salou house, the Thatched cottage, houses with projections. Property of the army, these buildings were entrusted thereafter to the Customs (1817) and this one occupied it until in 1835. A private individual repurchased the places and rented them with peasants, fishermen, goémoniers.

This village is quasi deserted and in ruin. An operation of restoration was carried out: it is envisaged a lodging of stage, a space craftsmen, an inn, and a house of the Pagan country.
