Kerið

Kerið is a Lac of crater located in the southernmost part of the center of the Iceland, on the attended road of the circle gilded . It is one of the many lakes of crater in this area, formed at the time of movement of ground above a hot Point, but it is that whose perfectly visible Caldeira is remained best preserved. Will caldeira, like the others volcanic rocks in the corner, is made up of red volcanic rocks (rather than black). Will caldeira in itself made approximately 55 meters of depth, 170 meters broad and 270 meters from one edge to another. Will caldeira of Kerið is that which is the best identifiable one because its age is estimated at 3  000 years, i.e. only half of that of all the other volcanic formations in the neighborhoods.

Whereas the crater rather has abrupt walls with a sparse vegetation, a wall knows a slope soft and covered with thick foam and the access by this place and definitely easier. The lake is in itself fairly deep (7 to 10 meters, according to pluviometry and other factors), but because of the content of the ground of minerals its water astonish by a color deep and intense aquamarine.
