Kentucky

The Kentucky is a State of the the United States, with the limit of the Midwest and deep Southern . It is bordered in north by the Illinois, the Indiana and the Ohio, in the east by the Virginia-Western and the Virginia, in the south by the Tennessee and in the west by the Missouri.

History

The name of the State comes from the Indian, ground shade and bloody for its hunting story. Kentucky was in the beginning a county of the State of Virginia, of which it separated to become the 15th State of the Union on June 1st 1792.

The inhabitants originating in Europe came from the east by Cumberland Gap and the Ohio river. The first were of Scotland, Ireland, and Germany.

The State gave its name to the gun with traditional flint of the Guerre of American independence.

Geography

In 2000, Kentucky counted: 4061769 inhabitants. Kentucky is one of the four States (out of 50) to carry the title of the Commonwealth.

Policy

Kentucky is a democratic State of tradition. In 2006, 57,05% of the voters of the State were recorded like democrats against 36,55% of republicans.

Since 1964, in the presidential elections, Kentucky with the practice to vote for the finally victorious candidate of the national election. In 2004, the voters of Kentucky thus granted nearly 60% their voices to George W. Bush.

Since 2003, the governor of Kentucky east Ernie Fletcher, first republican governor of this State since 1971. Steve Beshear, member of the democratic party, gained the election at the post of governor of Kentucky on November 6th, 2007. It will be inaugurated in 2008.

At the local level, at the time of the session 2007-2008, the Room of the representatives is dominated by 61 democrats against 39 republicans, and the Senate, by 21 republicans against 16 democrats and 1 independent.

At the federal level, the 2 senators are Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell, both members of the Republican party whereas Kentucky is represented with the room by 4 republicans and 2 democrats.

Economy

Kentucky is famous for its distillings of bourbon, for the production of tobacco and equestrian industry. Kentucky Derby is one of the equestrian races most known in the world and takes place first Saturday from May in Louisville.

Culture

  • Cumberland falls is one of the rare places of the northern hemisphere where a Arc-en-ciel of the moon is observable, by full moon.
