Kenneth III of Scotland

Kenneth III is king d' Écosse of 997 with 1005.

He is the son of the king Dubh, cousin far away from the preceding king Constantin III, and first cousin of his successor Malcolm II. to see the diagram of the family.

Kenneth III is last king d' Écosse to be inherited the crown by the habit of the Tanistrie which had caused to make alternate the royalty between the two downward branches of Kenneth I {{er}}; thus generating systematic wars between the two familles.

The Annales of the four Masters mention in 998 that Dunghal mac Cinaedh (mac Mael Coluim) is killed by Gillacoimghim mac Cinaedh (mac Duhh) .

Kenneth III, like his/her son and Co-king Giric, were killed the March 25th 1005, with the Bataille of Monzievaird against his/her Malcolm cousin. This one abolishes the Tanistrie definitively while making kill the male descendants of Kenneth: Boide, Gillacoimgain quoted previously, as well as a grandson of Boide whose name is not specified.

A curious entry in the Annales of Ulster indicates that in 1035 " Cathal mac Amalgaid king of the west of Leinster and its wife the girl of the son of Gilla Caemgien mac Cinaed. and its dog… were killed at the same time by Cellach mac Dunchad".

A descendant of Kenneth however succeeds in assembling on the throne in 1057: its back grandson Lulach, but there will remain king only less than one year.
