A kennels is an establishment intended for the breeding or the pension of dogs or, in a castle, the building which shelters the Meute.

These dogs must be recorded or eligible with being recorded with an association incorporated under the Loi on the genealogy of the animals.
In Franche-Comté
The kennels in Franche-Comté is also the name running given to dust. In this precise case, one does not pronounce " chenil" but rather " chni" and this word gets busy exclusively in the singular, as in the expression " to collect the chenil". This term is also used in Switzerland in the canton of Vaud.
