Kenmare
Kenmare (in Irish Year Neidín ) is a small town located in the south of the Comté of Kerry in Ireland. The Irish name An Neidín can be translated by the small nest. The name of Kenmare is the anglicized form of Ceann Mhara i.e. literally " the head of the mer" , which refers to the maximum projection of the sea inside the grounds. The city is located at the point of Bay of Kenmare ( An Ribhéar ) at the place where Roughty emerges in the sea, between the Péninsule of Iveragh and the Péninsule of Beara.
Kenmare is on the Anneau of Kerry, high place of tourism in the south of Ireland.
The area is inhabited for a very long time. One finds traces of Celtic occupation there, with in particular one of largest rings stone of Ireland.
Kenmare was conceded with the cartographer English Sir William Petty by Oliver Cromwell in payment of its work of cartography of the island of Ireland in 1656.
The district belongs to the electoral zone for the legislative elections of Southern Kerry.
Kenmare is a very popular tourist destination. She knew a great phase of real expansion with the construction of very many residences of holidays. That involved a significant growth of the population especially in period of tourist season.
Transport
The city is served by a daily line of bus coming from Killarney and by a daily line towards Cork in summer. Kenmare is connected to Killarney by N71 via " Molls Gap" and " Ladies View" two high places of the National park of Killarney. This road belongs to the Anneau of Kerry.
