Kelvinator

Kelvinator is a company of apparatuses electric household appliances S founded in 1914 with Détroit (Michigan), the United States. It draws its name from William Thomson Baron de Kelvin, which developed a scale of measurement temperature beginning with the Absolute zero, because the company then produced especially Glacière S and Réfrigérateur S servants. It is now integrated into the Swedish firm Electrolux SA, and the name Kelvinator is nothing any more but one brand name.

History

In 1926, Kelvinator buys the company Leonard , founded in 1881. In 1928, George W. Mason becomes the president about it. It increases the market share of the company until 1936, in spite of the Grande Depression, while cutting the production costs. In 1936, Mason is approached by the American car manufacturer Nash Motors in order to become their new president. It accepts on the condition of integrating Kelvinator into Nash. The January 4th 1937, the two companies amalgamate and become Nash-Kelvinator Corporation.

In 1952, the new company buys Altorfer Bros. Company , a manufacturer of washerwoman S, and division Kelvinator thus widens the range of its products. During fusion of Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson Motor Because in 1954, Kelvinator becomes a division of American Motors Corporation (AMC). In 1968, AMC will sell Kelvinator with White Consolidated Industries, which had already the marks Frigidaire, Gibson, Tappan and White-Westinghouse, in order to obtain funds at the time of a difficult master key. White Consolidated became possibly Frigidaire Company and was bought in 1986 by Electrolux of Sweden.

Distinctions

Kelvinator was the first manufacturer, in the Années 1950, of refrigerators without white frost with freezer and cold section side-by-side. Into the Years 1960, the company introduced refrigerators whose doors could be used as frameworks in order to be harmonized with the decoration of the kitchen. Kelvinator also produced systems of air-conditioning for the cars of AMC .
