Keith Richards (born the December 18th 1943 in Dartford, in the Kent in England) is Guitariste Rolling Stones, group which it founded with Brian Jones by joining Mick Jagger and Ian Stewart, in 1962. Jagger and Richards share the composition of the pieces of Stones.

Biography

Pre-Rolling Stones

Keith is born with the Livingstone Hospital during the Second world war, in the middle of the bombardments and of the attacks of V1. His/her parents are workmen. His/her father having been seriously wounded during the war, Keith is very close to his maternal grandfather, Augustus Theodore Dupree, (Gus), musician of Jazz, which has a great influence on him. The first idol of Keith is Roy Rogers, actor of Western, which he imitates at his place. Later, Keith adopts the vestimentary style Teddy Boy . Then his/her parents divorce and Keith is sent to the Sidcup Art College . It is for this period that it decides more not to see his father, that it will find only in 1982.

Dartford is also the birthplace of Mick Jagger, with which it goes to the nursery school. They lose a little sight, and are found in 1960 on the station platform of Dartford. Mick has discs with him, of which the Best off Muddy Waters , which encourages Keith to come to speak to him. Mick invites Keith to join it in its group very right being born, " Little Boy Blue & The Boys" Blues;. Keith comes with his/her friend Dick Taylor, whom he knew with the " Sidcup Art College". In July 1961, in Devon, the western south of the England, on vacation with the parents Richards, Keith and Mick give their first concert, it is at least their first service in public, with resumptions of the Everly Brothers.

Mick also sings in Ealing Club in the Blues Incorporated of Alexis Korner, which have as a beater some Charlie Watts, and as bass player Jack Bruce; it takes along Keith there. In Ealing Club, they meet Brian Jones, large amateur of blues, which seeks to assemble a group with the pianist Ian Stewart. With Dick Taylor with low, they will be the first Rolling Stones, in 1962.

Stones

It is while awaking in the middle of the night that in 1965 it composes Satisfaction , which will become the first large hit Rolling Stones, and will consolidate it in the idea that, him and Mick Jagger, can write tubes. After this date, he will endeavor to compose, always with like only partner Jagger, it quasi totality of the titles of each album, forsaking the resumptions of American tubes.

Music

Keith always was, already at the time of the meeting of Dartford with Mick, a fan of Chuck Berry. It will always remain it, and this syncopated style of the rocker of Saint Louis will be magnifié by Richards. Besides Keith knows on the end of the fingers all the fronts and solos of the Master

As of the beginning, it develops in the Rolling Stones with the other guitarist Brian Jones a style of play which will become the “trademark” of the group: the overlap of the two guitars, without real distinction between soloist and rhythmic. Thus, nobody with the label " soliste" , nor that of " rythmique" , two guitarists being able to alternate and combine their part of guitars, creating a single sound. Even if this play is lost a few years, for the period Mick Taylor, the guitarist who replaced Brian Jones in 1969 and remained in the group until 1975. Mick Taylor had been essential as soloist, Keith will return in force at the time of the arrival of the substitute of Taylor in 1975, Ron Wood, ideal musical companion of Richards.

During the scenic station-wagon of years 67-69, under the influence of Ry Cooder, he invents a new type of play of guitar: he grants it in '' open tuning '' of ground , ( D , ground , D , ground , if , D ,) of which he withdraws the sixth cord, largest, the serious D , which makes it possible to have a ground into low, the 5th cord becoming most serious. With this type of agreements, he will write Honky Tonk Woman , Brown Sugar , Jumping Jack Flash , Start Me Up , etc He uses preferably a Fender Telecaster custom for this type of tuning.

His/her friend and road to manage group Ian Stewart, learned to him from the rudiments of Piano, which it will use for the first time on Let' S spend the night together in 1967.

Recognition

The end of the Years 1960 and the beginning of the Années 1970 will bring the recognition of its pars to him, in a ripe musical style and as of now immutable, which will be the signature of Keith: use of the open tunings , syncopated rate/rhythm, use of the fourth time of each measurement like fulcrum, generalization of the front in the rock'n'roll, which will make it call " the front humain" (" human riff") by all the commentators. This period will be also that of the beginnings of consumption of Héroïne, which will mark it during the twenty following years, leading it many times in prison. It is for this period that, under the crook of the producing Jimmy Miller will be produced the most legendary albums of Stones: Beggars Banquet , Let It Bleed , Sticky Fingers and Exiles One Hand Street . The album Let It Bleed will be regarded besides as the work (guitaristic) of Keith alone, Brian Jones, the second guitarist, not coming more in studio. This last will be made return group in 1969 and replace by the already famous young person but Mick Taylor. A second album, mythical, can be one of best of Stones, is regarded as the work of Keith, entirely recorded in its villa of the south of France: Exiles One Hand Street .

Period sinks

The following years, until the middle of decade 80, will be one turbid period for Keith. Drugs, prisons, died of his/her son and close relations, doubts musical, unequal albums of Stones, arrival of the disco music in their music, quarrels with Mick Jagger, etc the replacement of Mick Taylor, started from him even, by the friend Ron Wood, will just make it possible Keith to be " présent" on scene. The arrest of Keith with Toronto with the " Harbor Castle Hotel" in February 1977, which risked seven years of prison, puts the group in danger and throws the doubt about the perenniality of the presence of the guitarist within Stones. The apogee of its disorders is reached in 1986 with the album Dirty Work , on which he practically does not play. The title of the album is a wink with the fans, who know the difficulties of the group and their guitarist fetish. This period will be that of the interrogation around the separation of Stones, of the albums solo of Jagger and Richards, but also of Wood and Watts. Let us note how Keith will be the initiator and the musical director of the film hail hail! Rock' roll realized for the 60 years of Chuck Berry.

Rebirth

The rebirth will come with the album Steel Wheels, which will see Keith Richards and its group, again welded, to find inspiration and… breathing! Even if the rounds are done in great stages and become a true industrial business, Keith insists to always be able to play in small rooms, more or less officially, using sometimes of pseudonym for the group, in order to remain close to its fans.

2005

The album has bigger bang in its turn a new resurrection, is recorded " with the ancienne" , in the French castle of Mick Jagger. Many blues and titles very roots compose this album, with always the " patte" of Keith.

April 28th, 2006, Keith Richards was victim of a concussion after being fallen from a Cocotier of Wakaya Club, a luxurious hotel of the islands Fiji, at the time of holidays with another member of Stones, Ron Wood. May 8th, 2006, it underwent an operation with the brain at the hospital Mercy Ascot of Auckland which was crowned success. The European dates of the world tour of Rolling Stones were differed of almost two months (July 11th instead of the May 27th). It interprets there, inter alia, the song Wanna Hold You, in the place of Mick Jagger.

Private life

Keith Richards did not have private life as agitated as some of his/her colleagues musicians, in particular Mick Jagger. One knows few adventures to him, Keith is rather a faithful man.

After a short adventure with Linda Keith, Keith Richards meets Anita Pallenberg in 1967, they will have three children.

  • a son, Marlon Richards, born in 1969, which are now married with a mannequin Free-Welsh, Lucie of Cliff;
  • a girl, Dandelion, born in 1972, which changed name for Angela Richards;
  • another son, Tared Richards, born in 1976, but deceased of complications of health shortly after its birth.
Anita and Keith separated in 1980.

Then it met Patti Hansen, a top model , with the Studio 54 of New York. They lived together a few years before marrying the 18 December 1983, the day of the fortieth birthday of Keith. They have 2 girls, mannequins like their mother:

  • Theodora ()
  • Alexandra

Recently Keith acknowledged to have sniffé ashes of his/her father. Indeed, he entrusted to British magazine NME this: “The oddest thing which I did test of sniffer? My father. I sniffé my father”, “It had been incinerated and I could not resist the idea to grind it with a little coke”, “Ca would not have disturbed my father”, “It passed very well and I am still in life”. However, in the days which follow, Keith contradicted via its spokesperson by affirming that it was only one joke.

  • Gibson Hummingbird (acoustic) on which it would have composed Satisfaction in a hotel room; it is the guitar used by Keith and Mick Jagger in the film One one One (Sympathy For The Devil).
as from 1965, Keith uses any kind of guitars; one in particular sees it (more or less chronologically) with:
