Keetmanshoop
Keetmanshoop (" The hope of Keetman" in Afrikaans) of founded Namibia in 1860 is a town.
Crossroads and economic center of the south of Namibia, the area of Keetmanshoop was known formerly, before the arrival of Europeans, under the name of Naked-pods.
History
In 1860, a Mission of the Rhenish company was founded near the local tribes Nama. The first missionary, Johann Georg Schröder, arrived on the spot the April 14th 1866, date official of the foundation of Keetmanshoop, the name of Johann Keetman which had financed the establishment of the mission, but which never visited the place named for him.The city is an economic center and a stage obliged towards the south of the country (Fish River Canyon, Lüderitz…)
Tourist interest
Keetmanshoop Museum reports the history of the city.
It is located close to the Rhenish church (1895), national monument since 1978. This one combines Gothic architecture and hones African.
The other historical building of the city is the building of the post office (1910).
The city is located at 20 km of the typical forest of Quivertree (trees kokerboom).
